I don’t know about you, but it has been a loooong winter. To get through the next couple of months I needed to go somewhere…. anywhere!! Even a weekend away satisfies my hunger for travel, at least for a minute lol. So, my girlfriend and I planned a night away this past weekend (adults only, with our men) to Niagara Falls. For us, it’s a staple location to visit, keeps us entertained and it’s only a couple hours drive from home.
Guess what the best part is? Well, besides being kid-free for the night, are the wineries!! That was our inspiration for this trip. My girlfriend and I love our wine, and we may have enjoyed a glass or four together.
If you haven’t been to the Niagara region (Canadian side,) you are missing out. There are so many amazing, beautiful and delicious wineries to choose from, it was tough to decide which ones to visit.
We ended up narrowing down our favorites, and here is the run down of our weekend’s top picks:
Our first stop on that gorgeous Saturday was Vineland Estates winery. This winery we discovered a couple years ago, and now we visit whenever we’re in the area. I love how rustic and cozy it is. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Vineland is located in the Niagara region and was originally a Mennonite homestead. The buildings date back to the 1800’s!! They offer wine tours, a restaurant, bed and breakfast and a wine shop of course! It really is a beautiful location to eat, drink and sample their well known Riesling.
We tasted the Riesling which I have to admit was really good since I usually prefer a drier white wine. We also sampled some reds and purchased their Cabernet Merlot!
Megalomaniac! Don’t you love the name of this winery? It’s not what you would expect, but there is a great story behind it you can read here.
The view is absolutely beautiful from this location, you can see the lake and other wineries below. The stunning wine shop is new and was built in 2014. How pretty are the chandeliers and large windows overlooking the land?! I could spend hours here just taking in the scenery. Oh and the wine is delicious too of course. We like to sample both red and whites, and I decided to purchase my favorite kind of wine, Pinot Grigio. The Contrarian Pinot Grigio 2015. Honestly it’s hard not to buy them all lol. Plus the Megalomanic bottles are so cute!
Two Sisters is so grand! This was my first visit and I have to say I was very impressed! I mean this place was gorgeous and located in Niagara on the lake. They have an Italian restaurant that looked so yummy that I must make a reservation for dinner next time. They have a large tasting room that is just as pretty. We purchased the 2012 Eleventh Post, a combination of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Trius winery is also located in Niagara on the lake and happens to be my girlfriend’s favorite winery. She is a member of their wine club and loves all the benefits you get from it. All of the wineries we visited have a wine club option for all you connoisseurs out there! Bottles of wine are delivered to your house monthly, I mean how amazing is that?!
As a wine club member we could enjoy the loft upstairs, basically a private area that is less hectic and we get personalized wine tastings. No complaints here!
Trius’ iconic wine is their Trius Red, its bold and delicious. It’s a must try when you visit!
Our touring of the wineries ended in the late afternoon, just in time to head back to Niagara Falls and enjoy a delicious dinner out, followed by drinks and live music at a cute lounge.
An adult weekend away with good friends is a must, especially for all you parents out there. You need a break sometimes from the kiddies. We came back refreshed and excited to see our little girl!
Hopefully I inspired you to plan a fabulous winery weekend in Niagara, you won’t regret it!!
