DEERHURST RESORT REVIEW

Deerhurst resort review, Huntsville, familiy vacation

Are you are looking to book a family getaway or a romantic couples weekend?  Heading up to northern Ontario is always a fun idea.  My hubby, daughter and I recently made the trek (2 hour drive) to Deerhurst resort located in Huntsville, ON.  This time it was for a dance competition, which is always fun!  Not only do we get to watch our girl perform, but also enjoy the resort and time spent with friends. When we arrived, my husband checked in and was easily upgraded to our preferred room (a view of the grounds, lake and a king bed.)  Since we were staying for 3 nights and 4 days, we booked a one bedroom Summit Lodge suite, that included a kitchenette, dining table, living room and separate bedroom.

Before I continue, I want to mention this is a review of my personal thoughts and opinions and is in no way sponsored!! Hope you can benefit from my insight!!

This is a view of the resort from behind.  They offer two 18 hole golf courses, one lakeside and one in the highlands. It’s great for all you golfers out there that want to play for an affordable price, plus stay in a great location!  More details and pricing here.

This is the rustic and cozy lobby where the front desk is located.  The service was prompt, and we had no issues.  On the other side of the lobby, is the Compass Grill, one of four restaurants offered at the resort.  Others include a pub, steakhouse, and a locally inspired restaurant.  Because we had a kitchenette and a busy dance schedule, we tried the pub for dinner one night, and it was quite good.  I had the quesadilla, my husband had the pizza and a grilled cheese for my daughter.  Simple, yet delicious! There is an outside patio where you can also dine, weather permitting.

Here’s a peek at our room and the very comfortable King size bed.  There was a decent size closet and dresser for storage.  Out the large window, is a nice size deck over-looking the trees,  golf course and lake in the distance.  Comfortable Muskoka chairs and a dining table were provided.

The kitchenette area of the suite included a small fridge, dishwasher, microwave/convection oven and a stove top.  All dishes, pots and pans, coffee maker, kettle and dish cloths were supplied, which was fantastic.  Also, in the living room was a pull out couch for extra guests.  Take a look at the full suite here.

A side note – the lodges aren’t considered a regular hotel room, therefore, there is no daily cleaning service.  It is only provided after 7 days of your stay.  You must contact the front desk for additional towels, toilet paper etc.

Enjoying the sun and the view from our suite’s balcony!

Above is the Summit lodge’s common room that includes two tv’s, several sitting areas, as well as a large dining table.  There are 5 Summit lodges in total, and each one has a common room for all to enjoy.  We were located in lodge 52.  I really liked how modern the lodge’s were, and very clean!!! So important!  You can, of course, stay in the main building in their regular hotel style rooms.

Perfect family vacation, Deerhurst resort

This was our first evening, we had unpacked and it was time to relax with a glass of wine.

Beautiful views from the main building’s top deck.  In the summer, they have many activities – golf, tennis, water sports, floating water toys, indoor and outdoor pools/whirlpool, horseback riding and so much more.  We had a couple of friends do the pony rides with their children, and had a wonderful time!!

In the winter they offer, skating, snowshoeing, snowmobiling etc.  For more details about the activities for both children and adults, click here.

If you are interested in lodging by the gorgeous lake, you can choose the lakeside rooms.  It is a 10 minute walk from the main building, with lots of parking.  My husband and I have stayed there in the past, and we really enjoyed the view.  It offers quick and easy access to the lake and beach, very relaxing.

Please note, there is currently construction of a new building by the lake, but we were not affected during our stay.

Can’t forget the reason we were at Deerhurst!  The dance competition of course! My daughter is the middle dancer in the photo above.  This is one of their jazz costumes (she competes in 3 dances) and seriously, how cute are the girls?!  They are only five, and won top overall mini group!

Deerhurst is a great place to host an event, conference, or just to enjoy time with family and friends!  We would love to take our daughter back in the summer to enjoy all the fun in the sun!!
